You almost certainly met one.

You worked for them, hired them, or went into business with them, and by the time you had their measure, you were already tangled up.

What happened was rarely loud. There was seldom a single act to point to. Only a thousand small distortions that somehow added up to a great deal of damage, and the quiet, exhausting suspicion that you were the problem.

You weren’t. This workbook helps you see it clearly, on paper, in private.

What you get

What’s inside

A 41-page printable PDF that runs alongside the book — or stands on its own if you haven’t read it yet.

A reflection page for every one of the eighteen chapters
82 questions that turn a vague unease into something you can name and weigh, each with room to write.
91 action items as a tick-box checklist
What to watch, what to write down, and what to decide.
The frameworks in one place
The Mask and the Engine, the Three Moments, the Confidence Premium, the Wake, the Leverage Window, the Exit Tax, the Hard Target and the rest, gathered as a quick reference you can carry into a meeting.
A private record you control
Built around the book's first instruction: watch, record, decide.

Decision, not diagnosis. This is a tool for reading behaviour and making sound calls,  not for labelling anyone, including yourself.

Two readers, one problem

Who it’s for

If you’re inside it now, a manager, professional, partner or employee trying to make sense of someone at the centre of your working life, the workbook helps you name the pattern, protect yourself, and decide what to do next.

If your job is to prevent it, a director, investor, founder or HR lead, it doubles as a diagnostic for the people and structures around you, and a first step toward building an organisation that resists capture.

The field guide

“The narcissist’s first and greatest advantage is simply not being seen clearly. This book, and this workbook, are about seeing clearly.”

The Narcissist in Business: Why Capable People Get Trapped — and How to Get Free is the field guide its author wished he’d been handed on the day he first sensed something was wrong.

About the author

Kevin Savage

Kevin Savage has worked every side of the table this book describes, as a founder who has built and run companies, a director responsible for governing them, and an investor backing other people’s.

Across companies at different stages and in different sectors, he kept meeting the same pattern: capable people slowly undone by someone at the centre who looked, from the outside, like the most impressive person in the room. This workbook is part of the toolkit he built in response.

If you’re building something worth protecting

Seeing the pattern is the start. Building an organisation that resists it, at hiring, at the board, in the records, in the culture, is work. Through Ventutec, Kevin helps founders, boards and investors do exactly that.

Diagnose
An honest read of where your people, governance and culture are exposed to capture.
Advise
The structures and decisions that build an immune system before it's needed.
Build
Putting the armour in place: the records, the reserved matters, the protected dissent.

Questions

Is it really free?
Yes. One email delivers it. No card, no catch.
Do I need to have read the book first?
No. It works on its own. It works better alongside the book.
Will you use this against difficult people I name?
You name nothing to us. The workbook is yours, on your own paper. We only ever see your email address.
What will you do with my email?
Deliver the workbook, then send the occasional note with new frameworks and writing. One-click unsubscribe, always. Full detail in the privacy policy.
I think I might recognise myself in this. Is that bad?
The fact that you're asking sets you apart from the people the book describes, they never wonder. Take it seriously, and take it to a qualified professional rather than a workbook. There's an appendix on this inside the book.

This workbook and book are for general information and education only. They do not constitute legal, financial, medical or psychological advice, and nothing in them is intended to diagnose anyone with any condition. The approach throughout is decision, not diagnosis.
